Stand Still
February 2012

There are times in this life when you will find yourself in a situation of turmoil or trouble that you don’t understand, but life will have its moments of trials and disappointments. On this journey with God, there will be paths to walk that are unexpected and seem undesirable to the flesh. During those times, it can be easy to become anxious or overwhelmed with feelings of restlessness and discontentment; but in that state of mind, you must beware to never act out of desperation. Too many Christians have made important decisions based on feelings, people’s opinions or turmoil in their lives instead of seeking God for His guidance and direction; and for some, those bad decisions have cost them their very souls. Jesus said, In your patience possess ye your souls (Luke 21:19). The book of Isaiah tells us, They that wait upon the LORD…shall mount up with wings as eagles (Isaiah 40:31).
Child of God, you must learn to soar high above the problems and trials of life; but the only way you can do that is by yielding to the thoughts of God. Through His Word, the Lord invites you to reason with Him. If you lack wisdom for a situation, the book of James says, Let him ask of God…and it shall be given him (James 1:5).
The Lord is always ready to supply all of your needs, but He has a problem getting people’s attention so they will turn their thoughts to Him. Consider the Israelites as they stood at the Red Sea. Only water was in front of them, and Pharaoh’s army was moving in from behind. This was a chaotic situation, and it looked as if all hope was lost; but God had prepared a vessel—Moses—to get His people’s attention. Moses rose up and told the people to stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD (Exodus 14:13). When they turned their attention to the Lord, He did the miraculous and parted the Red Sea.
Friend, God stands ready to part your Red Sea if you will only stand still in His presence. Learn to get quiet before the Lord. Unload the cares of life and acknowledge God and His promises. Then you will untie God’s hands in your life, and He will be able to guide your footsteps every day.
If you are a sinner or backslider who is not satisfied with your life or it seems that nothing works in your favor, look to Jesus. He can do for you what no other power can do. He loves you and desires to make plain paths for your feet; and one day, His path for your life will lead you all the way to Heaven. Today is the day of salvation. Look to Jesus and get ready to start a new life with Him. To say the sinners’ prayer, click here.
